Mid Canterbury Proud Winners of Browning Shield - five years in a row!!
Mid Canterbury Tennis host Canterbury Premier Interclub Saturday 2nd December 2017
Mid Canterbury Tennis are very excited to be hosting the Canterbury Premier Interclub Competition this Saturday 2nd December at the Ashburton Trust Tennis Centre.
Play commences at 1.30 pm - Four men's & four women's teams will do battle on the courts!!
Highlights will be;
- the rematch of last year's mens final between Cashmere & Elmwood Tennis Clubs
- a rematch of last weekends Arrow Canterbury Open final between James Meredith [Cashmere] and Hayden Joblin [Elmwood] which was won by Meredith in an exciting three set match
- a rematch of last year's women's final between Elmwood and Waimari featuring Canterbury Open finalist Emily Martin [Elmwood Tennis Club] and semi finalist Joelene Feneon [Waimari Tennis Club]
- Women's match between Cashmere & Hagley Park featuring two local players, Canterbury Open Winner Tessa McCann[Cashmere Tennis Club] and Ashleigh Leonard [Hagley Park]
Entry is free and there will be a bbq at the conclusion of play. The bar & kitchen will also be open.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to see some of New Zealand's top tennis players competing in Ashburton, there will be some exciting singles & doubles matches to watch"

Browning Shield 2016-17 season
Mid Canterbury Tennis are the winners & holders of Browning Shield for four consecutive years - a huge congratulations to the team!
New Mid Canterbury Tennis Head Coach
Mid Canterbury Tennis are please to welcome Andre van Rooyen to Ashburton to take up the position of Head Coach based at the Ashburton Trust Tennis Centre. Andre and his family have made the move from Nelson where he was Head coach for five years with the Nelson lawn Tennis Club.
With over twenty five years professional tennis coaching experience, and having played in monied tournaments in Europe, Andre brings a fantastic level of experience and success to Mid Canterbury Tennis.
Andre is a certified Professional Tennis Coach and member of Tennis Coaches New Zealand. He has played and coached in New Zealand, South Africa, France, Germany and the UK. He also holds a diploma in Sports Management from the Rand Afrikaans University.
Prior to moving to New Zealand in September 2008 he operated a successful tennis academy in South Africa where a number of his students were selected to play for College Teams in the USA. He has also coached and prepared players for the international competitive tennis arena, assisting players participating in the ATP Satellite and Challenger circuits in Africa, Europe and America.
Upon arriving in New Zealand Andre spent two & a half years working as Head Coach for the Waihopai Tennis Club in Southland. He was also contracted by Tennis Southland to work as a Regional Coach preparing players for regional and national tournaments achieving a notable level of success with all levels of player.
Andre is very excited about the coaching opportunities available in Mid Canterbury and is looking forward to getting around the Clubs, Schools and meeting players in the district young & old alike.

Congratulations to Jake Parsons placed 1st in 8 boys singles, Jacob Adam runner up & Wynter Copland 3rd. In 8 boys doubles Jacob & Jake were 1st with Wynter coming runner up with his doubles partner.

Gryphon Report
In early 2014 both the Tennis Canterbury Region Incorporated and Wilding Park Foundation Incorporated Boards commissioned Dr Denis Mowbray of Gryphon Management Consultants to prepare a report on key aspects of the tennis structure within the Canterbury Region.
A meeting was held with Peter Maciaszek, Chairman, Tennis Canterbury Region on Monday 20th April at 7.30 pm at the Ashburton Trust Tennis Centre.

Ashburton Domain 150th Anniversary Celebrations
Sunday 30th November - 12.30 pm
In 1901 Anthony Wilding, New Zealands most famous tennis player, won a tournament at the Ashburton Domain.
As part of the Ashburton Domain 150th Anniversary Celebrations Mid Canterbury Tennis held a fun tennis challenge on a specially prepared grass court near where the original courts were in the Ashburton Domain from 12.30 pm onwards on Sunday 30th November 2014 to re-enact this event.
Ashburton College Year 9 - Giving back to the Community
A big thank you to the students from Ashburton College to came to the Tennis Centre on Wednesday 26th November 2014 and gave their time spring cleaning the grounds - it was a job well done & much appreciated - thank you!
